When we started our company, we knew that we wanted to be mindful of how our products would affect the planet. In creating the overall look and feel of our candles and packaging, a lot of thought went into being responsible. I am also embarking on a journey right now that is better for me AND the environment (keep reading!).
When researching types of wax, we decided on all natural soy wax. I wrote in an earlier blog post about how soybeans are converted into candle wax – you can read about it here. Some of the benefits of using soy wax are: Renewable, Sustainable, American grown, Longer burn time, and Cleaner burn (no black soot).
We wanted to make sure that when you are finished enjoying the ambiance of your candle, you are able to give it another life. Our containers are easy to clean and can be repurposed in so many cute ways (more on that in a future post). Our gift boxes are made from recycled materials and we reuse packing material that we get in the boxes we receive from our suppliers. Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle!
I had a bit of an epiphany a few weeks ago. Here I was making sure that I was doing things in my business to be kinder to the earth. I had switched over from harmful cleaning products to all natural products, and was slowly moving over to all natural skin products. And I was giving to animal charities because I love animals so much.
But, I was feeding my body a bunch of horrible things. I was eating a lot of things that are harmful not only to me, but the planet as well, such as processed food, and animal products. I won’t go into all of the things that helped me come to this decision (suffice it to say again “I love animals”, you get the picture)… but I am starting the journey to being Vegan! I will be sharing this journey with you and including you on my quest to find delicious and healthy meals.
When purchasing a product, in addition to renewability and sustainability, what other aspects are important to you? And, if you have any great vegan recipes, I would love it if you would share them with me!
