A Blog Makeover!

I am so excited to share the new look of our blog page with you!  As you may have read, I recently completed a blog challenge through Indie Business Network (IBN) to blog for 30 consecutive days.  That is a lot of blog posts being written in a short amount of time and I wasn’t sure people were seeing all of them if they didn’t check in every day.

As I think a lot of small business owners do, I run everything myself (with help from my wonderful husband), including the designing of my website.  We use Square Space for the hosting and e-commerce, but we control the look and feel by modifying the many site designs they offer.  I love the template that I use; it gives the overall feel I am looking for in presenting our products and story.  The blog page of the template is pretty basic (or so I thought) and I was happy with it when I started writing the blogs.

As I got further and further into the 30-day challenge, I was not thrilled with the fact that when someone clicked on the blog page, they could only see the current blog, and maybe one or two previous ones if they scrolled down.  In order to see past blogs they would have to click to another page.  I felt like people who wanted to read my current blog post would probably (hopefully!) be interested in my other blog posts.  I was so busy writing, I hadn’t really concentrated on exploring different ways to design the functionality of the way the blog was configured.

Once the 30-day blog challenge was over, I decided to use the time I had spent writing the blog one day to finding out how I could redesign it.  I remembered seeing another IBN member’s blog page that she set up to look more like Instagram with a “quilt” of all of her blog posts. I cannot for the life of me remember who it was, but when I do; I will come back and update this post to give her credit for the inspiration! I love the look of Instagram, you can follow us there if you’d like!

After a lot of searching (and I’m not going to lie – some frustration and a few bad words!) I was able to figure out a way to design a similar type set up on my blog page.  You may have come directly to this blog post from an outside source, so you would have bypassed the blog “home” page.  You can see it here.

I LOVE the way it looks!  I am so happy that people will now be able to easily see my all of my blog posts and you can search by category in a drop down menu.   I also love the cloud block underneath the “big ideas banner” that shows the categories with the ones having the most blog posts showing up in the largest text.  So fun!

Let me know what you think!  Or if you have any suggestions on how I can make the blog more user friendly for you.  My blog is for you and I to connect and I want to make sure you love it as much as I do!
